According to Electrical Safety Foundation International, 2,400 kids are treated for injuries caused by an electrical outlet. Based on these findings, teaching your children early about electrical safety could prevent accidents around the home, daycare and/or school.

Here is a list of warnings to tell your little one:

  • Don't stick metal objects into a toaster and/or outlet. Metal materials act like conductors, so when in contact with a toaster or outlet, an electrical current will be sent throughout the body.
  • Electricity can run through water so keep objects with a cord or a plug far away from it.
  • Make sure to fly kites in open areas that are not nearby power lines.
  • Don't climb a tree around power lines.
  • Grab the plug by the head when pulling out of an outlet. It could be damaging to the outlet, plug and/or appliance when the cord is yanked on.
