An excessive number of appliances in your home is NOT the cause of a power outage. If your wires are too small for the amount of electricity traveling throughout your home, a power surge will occur.

  • Keep all electronics away from water and do not touch anything electrical if your hands are wet. Electricity travels faster in water.
  • Ensure that GFCI outlets are installed in every “wet” area of your home. This includes bathrooms, kitchens, garages, basements, and areas around your pool. GFCI outlets will prevent shocks in your home.
  • ALL electrical appliances should be plugged into grounded outlets ONLY. Appliances plugged into extension cords have a higher chance of failing during electrical storms.
