Residential Surge Protection
The purpose of any surge protection device, whether it is whole home or point of use type, is to limit the voltage supplied by blocking volts above what is safe. The need for surge protection devices have increased as home electrical needs have increased and the products we power become more critical to daily life, more expensive, and more difficult, if not impossible, to replace.
Two Basic Types of Residential Surge Protection Devices:
Whole house surge protection devices are wired in at the electrical panel or electrical meter and will protect everything in the home. This type of surge protection device will require installation by a licensed electrician. Don’t worry, at Mister Sparky® of Toledo our technicians use the best products available and are trained in the latest, state-of-the-art techniques, guaranteed!
Point of use surge protectors will protect appliances and devices from any power surge coming into your home through electrical outlets, cable connections, LAN connections, etc. Don’t confuse a plug-in power strip with a surge protector. Power strips give little protection and protect only from the electrical outlet.
